This Week In Ridiculous Holidays: April 8th – April 14th

As with most weeks, there are some great holidays this week (so much cheese) and some truly weird ones (eight track tapes?), but isn’t that the beauty of it?

Monday, April 8th:

All is Ours Day

Well, everything belongs to someone, doesn’t it?

Draw a Picture of a Bird Day

I can’t draw and I don’t like birds.

National Empanada Day

But I love empanadas!

Zoo Lover’s Day

I have mixed feelings about zoos. I love animals, but I don’t like seeing them in captivity.

Tuesday, April 9th:

Name Yourself Day

I choose Princess Consuela Banana Hammock.

Winston Churchill Day

Pro-tip: if you ever go to London, go to the Churchill War Rooms. Super interesting.

National Cherish an Antique Day

Antique furniture is way cooler than new, if you ask me.

National Chinese Almond Cookie Day

Are these good? Someone tell me.

National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day

Real heroes.

National Library Workers Day

Also heroes.

Wednesday, April 10th:

Golfer’s Day

It’s a bit odd that this isn’t on a Sunday.

National Siblings Day

My siblings are pretty cool, I’ve got to say.

National Encourage a Young Writer Day

I encourage you to submit to The Clock Out!

National Cinnamon Crescent Day

Can someone tell me what these are?

National Farm Animals Day

To celebrate, see how many verses of “Old MacDonald” you can sing.

National Bookmobile Day

My second favorite kind of -mobile, after the ice cream truck.

Thursday, April 11th:

National Submarine Day

Sandwich or water craft?

National Barber Shop Quartet Day

We really need more barber shop quartets just singing on the sidewalks.

National Teach Children to Save Day

Start now to pay off your student loans by 50!

National Eight Track Tape Day

Does anyone own one of these?

National Pet Day

I’ll be celebrating by napping with Frank and Phoebe.

National Cheese Fondue Day

And then having fondue.

National Support Teen Literature Day

I just finished Jenny Han’s “Summer” series; I highly recommend.

National Alcohol Screening Day

Um, Is this like a legal thing or…?

Friday, April 12th:

Russian Cosmonaut Day

We celebrate nothing Russian here in the good ol’ U.S. of A.

Walk on Your Wild Side Day

My wild side is getting extra hot buffalo wings instead of regular. I’m crazzzzzy.

National Big Wind Day

Outside wind, not the kind from your ass.

National Licorice Day

I’m a big fan of Twizzlers.

National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

Two cheese holidays this week? I’m liking it.

National Colorado Day

Denver is a really cool city. That’s about all I know of Colorado.

National Day of Silence

Honestly, a whole day of quiet seems like a lovely idea.

Saturday, April 13th:

International Plant Appreciation Day

I like plants. I can’t keep them alive, but I like them.

National Peach Cobbler Day

I’ve gotta say, I’m not a fan.

Scrabble Day

I really need to start playing “Words With Friends” again. I felt smarter.

National Thomas Jefferson Day

Fun fact: there is no mention of him being President on his gravestone.

National Make Lunch Count Day

How exactly does one do this?

National Record Store Day

I don’t even know where to find a record store. That’s kind of sad.

Sunday, April 14th:

Ex Spouse Day

I feel like it should be more about remembering the reasons why they are an ex.

International Moment of Laughter Day

Honestly, you should try and have a moment of laughter every day. It’s good for the soul.

Look up at the Sky Day

It’s a bird, it’s a plane…

National Dolphin Day

I swam with dolphins once. I’ve got to say it was overrated.

National Pecan Day

Did I hear pecan pie?

Palm Sunday

Reach as High as You Can Day

Or as I call it – “go to the grocery store and try and get something off the top shelf’ day.

National Gardening Day

Yeah, assuming all of the snow has melted.

National Pan American Day

I didn’t really know this meant; according to Wikipedia, Pan-America refers to “Collectively, the Americas: North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.” So that’s cool, I guess.

  1. National day of silence isn’t just for quiet, it’s actually a day people vow to stay silent the entire day in reflection of the silencing and erasure of LGBTQ people throughout history.
