It’s sort of a joke within my family that I’m dead inside. I rarely cry at major life events and movies that are supposed to cause waterworks don’t inspire tears. I mean, I didn’t even cry at The Notebook. So when I tell you this week’s Feel Good Friday made me tear up, you know it’s a good one.
Whitaker Weinburger has battled stage 4 neuroblastoma since he was 13-months-old. It’s a battle that included six rounds of chemotherapy, 20 rounds of radiation and a double stem cell transplant – more than any child should endure.
As Whitaker turned four on Wednesday, his parents wanted to plan something special – not only to celebrate his birthday, but also the fact that he is in remission. Their idea? A parade of yellow cars, because Whitaker loves the character Bumblebee from “Transformers.” In fact, whenever he sees a yellow car, he yells “Bumblebee!”
Adorbs, right? But what’s cuter is Whitaker’s reaction to enormous birthday surprise. The Alexandria, VA Sheriff’s Office and some others helped the Weinburgers put out a call for anyone with yellow vehicles to come out and surprise Whitaker on his route to preschool – and they responded, in droves. Who knew so many people drove yellow cars?!
I’m not crying, you are. [Via Patch]
